}Daanax.ils'eik, also known by his English name Chuck Miller, smiles as he greets me at the doors of Sitka Tribe of Alaska where he is the Cultural Educator Liaison. We're meeting to discuss salmon — a topic so rich with meaning in his life that we hardly know where to start. So, Chuck begins by introducing himself, as is traditional, in Lingít — the language originally spoken in Sheet’-ká (Sitka).

This story was originally produced for Salmon Nation as part of their Salmon Stories project. Emma Bruhl is a 2021–2022 Salmon Nation Fellow.
