What is SEACC?
The Southeast Alaska Conservation Council (SEACC) is a nonprofit conservation organization focused on advocating for the Tongass National Forest, the continued health of our wild ecosystems, and unique Southeast Alaskan ways of life.
Unfortunately, myriad threats to our healthy fish and wildlife populations loom large with large polluters cruising our waters and multiple mining projects such as the proposed Palmer Mine, Canada’s Galore Creek Mine, and KSM Mine jeopordizing Southeast’s ecological and cultural health.
A donation to SEACC is a donation for maintaining healthy forests, salmon habitats, and communities.
What is GivingTuesday?
Tied to the larger "radical generosity" movement and intended to uplift the impact of local changemakers, Giving Tuesday is a holiday that was invented in 2012 as a primarily online, world-wide day of charitable giving. It takes place annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. The movement erupted across social media and has sparked an outpouring of support for small organizations for over a decade.
Giving Tuesday is a movement that unleashes the power of radical generosity around the world.
Tapping into the spirit of giving, each November we partner with SEACC to support their conservation work. Over the last three years our community of values-driven customers have made a steady impact — generously giving back to the ecosystem that is the source of their seafood for multiple years now, and many giving as first-time donors. In fact, of the total number of donors who contributed on GivingTuesday last year, half were donating to SEACC for the first time!
What is 1% For the Wild
We’re proud to say that SEACC is one of our 1% For the Wild partners. We know that our company depends on wild Alaska habitat and fisheries as well as vital small-scale fishing fleets and healthy communities.
That’s why each year Sitka Seafood Market returns 1% of the company’s gross revenue (that’s revenue—not profits!) back to the wild; thereby supporting organizations such as SEACC that work to protect Southeast Alaska’s wild habitat.
