Our Sustainable Sourcing Standards
Wild-caught with care. Sourced with purpose.
Seafood You Can Trust
We believe that great seafood should tell a story — one of quality, transparency, and respect for our oceans. Every fish we source is wild-caught, traceable, and processed in the U.S. to preserve flavor, integrity, and connection.
This isn’t just seafood — it’s a direct connection to the ecosystems and communities that sustain it.
A Higher Standard for Sourcing
Sustainability is just the starting point. At Sitka Seafood Market, we go beyond industry standards and certifications with a values-driven sourcing approach.
We partner directly with small-boat fishermen and community-based processors — people who take pride in their craft and care for the fish they harvest.
Every step of our sourcing process is built on integrity, traceability, and respect for the ecosystem.
Meet Our Fishermen and Processors
Our partners are small-boat harvesters and trusted processors — including woman-owned, Tribally-owned, and fishermen-owned operations. Some of our fishermen are also part-owners of Sitka Seafood Market. That means when you join us, you’re helping build a better, more resilient food system.
Always Wild-Caught
All our seafood is responsibly harvested from healthy, wild U.S. fisheries. It’s flash-frozen at peak freshness and delivered directly to your door — so every bite is clean, nutrient-rich, and full of natural flavor.
By Small-Boat Fishermen
Every portion is labeled with the species, harvest location, and processor — sometimes even the name of the fishing vessel. We believe in radical transparency so you can make informed, ethical choices.
Sustainably and Responsibly
We partner with small-boat fishermen who use low-impact methods like hook-and-line, pot, or gillnet gear. These techniques help protect ocean habitats, reduce bycatch, and ensure long-term fishery health.
Protecting Wild Fisheries
- We actively monitor the health of the fish stocks we source from, their environmental impacts, and we stay engaged in relevant fisheries policy and management issues.
- We do not source from fisheries that are considered overfished or are experiencing overfishing.
- We primarily source from low-impact hook-and-line, pot, and gillnet fisheries operated by small-boat fishermen (vessel length of 60 ft. or less). On a few occasions, we source from other gear types where the fishery and partnership is carefully evaluated.
