Torin Pfundt grew up in Petersburg, Alaska — a fishing village located on Mitkof Island southeast of Sitka. A third-generation fisherman, Torin grew up fishing on his father’s boat the F/V Haley Marie; however, he didn’t start shrimping until 2019 when he joined the F/V Rebel Isle as a crew member. He enjoyed it so much that he made the decision to buy into the fishery after his very first season. He's been shrimping ever since on the Haley Marie, which he began leasing from his father the following year. While his father still runs the boat on longlining trips for halibut and black cod, Torin enjoys his larger role in the shrimp fishery which he appreciates for its laid-back, noncompetitive nature. Sitka Salmon Shares sources wild-caught spot shrimp directly from Torin for its premium quality wich is preserved when Torin cleans and freezes the shrimp right onboard the Haley Marie. Torin uses a technique called an individual quick-freeze that prevents large ice crystals from forming and maintains a deliciously sweet taste and buttery texture.
